Imperial Valley Phase Shifting Transformer
Installation of two phase-shifting transformers with a dual-tank design at the Imperial Valley Substation. The upgrade will optimally control the power flow in the transmission system from Imperial Valley Substation to La Rosita Substation. The 230-kV line to La Rosita Substation operates in parallel with two 500-kV transmission lines to San Diego. The phase-shifting transformers will enable the client to retard the power flow to La Rosita Substation and push more power on the transmission lines to San Diego. In addition, the client will be able to limit the power flow to La Rosita Substation to 800 MVA when one of the 500-kV transmission lines is out of service.
